- Voltage – This is a measure of the potential power provided from a source such as a battery or the power company. Various appliances will use step-down transformers or converters to allow only a certain amount of voltage through.
- Watts – Watts is a measure of electrical power. The lower the Watts an appliance consume, the less power it uses.
Electrical Repair
Wires and cables will eventually become faulty, which can cause disruptions or hazards in your daily life. Should you encounter any of the problems below, it is advisable to call a qualified electrician licensed by EMA to rectify the issues.
It is also recommended that you do not attempt to repair the electrical wires and cables by yourself if you are not qualified. This is to prevent any further damage to the electrical system and prevents you from being electrocuted in your attempt to fix it.
Circuit breakers: While it is normal for your circuit breaker to trip once in a while in the event of a power surge, a circuit breaker that trips too often may be due to a fault in your wires.
Dimming or flickering lights: Lights that flicker often are a result of loose connections in your wires. A loose connection can lead to further complications in the long run.
Buzzing lamps: If your lamp emits a sound when you switch it on, you should get an electrician to check the appliance. This may be a sign of an electrical issue in your wires, especially if you receive a shock or a spark when you switch it on.
Hot outlets: If your electrical outlets are heated, it means that the electricity running through your wires is not channelled correctly. Usually, this means that there is a loose connection somewhere as power starts to travel out of the wiring and to the surrounding air. This causes the outlet to heat up, and may eventually even start a fire.
Burnt smell: If you smell burnt plastic, there is an indication that your home wiring is spoilt and should be rectified immediately. This could be due to overheating of your electric cables or a short circuit which causes your electrical appliances to catch fire.
