How we vet every contractor on Homees.
Singapore has good contractors and bad ones — the problem has never been supply, it's knowing who to trust. Here's exactly what we check before any contractor appears on this platform.
Home services only
Before anything else we ask one question: does this company send people to customers' homes to do the work? Installers, repairers, cleaners, movers, inspectors and design-and-build firms qualify. Retail-only businesses — furniture stores, showrooms, appliance shops, online sellers — are declined, however good their reviews.
A registered Singapore business
We look for each company in Singapore's business registry (ACRA BizFile) and confirm it has a live website or a Google Business listing. Sole proprietors, partnerships and Pte Ltd companies all qualify. Where the registration number is confirmed it is printed on the profile and the listing can carry the Verified badge; until then the profile says ‘registry number not yet on file’.
A person reads what they actually do
Someone on our team reads each company's website, services and photos to confirm it is a real home-service contractor doing the trade it claims, then files it under the right category and sub-services. Off-topic businesses, shops and companies that only sell without installing are removed.
Ratings come from Google, not from us
The star rating and review count on every profile are pulled from the company's own Google Business listing. Contractors cannot type in their own rating and neither do we. Top positions in each category are set by hand from track record and review history; everything else sorts by Google reviews.
Kept clean over time
Listings are re-checked in sweeps: companies that close, change trade or turn out to be shops are removed, and details are refreshed from the company's own site. If a contractor on Homees ever fails to deliver, tell us — we look into every report and act on it.
What the Verified badge means
A contractor carries the Verified badge only when all three of these are true, and the same rule applies to every company on Homees:
- Registered business, shown. Its ACRA registration number (UEN) is on file and printed on the profile, so you can look it up on BizFile yourself.
- Operating, confirmed twice. Google's business listing and an independent web check both say the company is open and trading.
- Read by a person. Someone on our team has read the company's own website and written its profile from it.
The badge does not mean we have inspected their work, seen their insurance or checked a trade licence. A company without the badge may simply be one we have not finished checking — it is still listed because it passed steps 1 to 3 above.
What we don't check (yet)
We don't currently verify trade licences, insurance cover or CaseTrust accreditation, and jobs are not booked or tracked through Homees — you contact the contractor directly. For regulated work, ask them yourself before paying a deposit: BCA registration for structural or major renovation work, an EMA licensed electrical worker, a PUB licensed plumber, an NEA licence for pest control, and a copy of their public liability insurance. Every service page has a "questions to ask" list to take into the quote.
Vetting reduces risk; it doesn't eliminate it. We don't guarantee individual job outcomes, and we publish the checks above so you can judge them yourself.
