Your kitchen countertop takes a daily beating — chopping, heat, spills — so it's worth getting right. In 2026, countertops in Singapore run roughly **S$30–S$60 psf for laminate**, **S$55–S$200 psf for quartz, solid surface and sintered stone**, and **S$40–S$250+ psf for natural granite and marble**. For a typical HDB kitchen, that's about **S$1,500–S$4,000+** installed. Here's the cost by material and how to choose.
Quick answer: Laminate is cheapest (~S$30–S$60 psf); quartz and sintered stone are the popular mid-premium picks (~S$70–S$200 psf); marble is the priciest and highest-maintenance. Most HDB kitchen countertops land at S$1,500–S$4,000 installed.
Countertop prices by material
| Material | Typical cost (psf, installed) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate | S$30 – S$60 | Budget; wide designs; less heat/scratch resistant |
| Solid surface | S$55 – S$175 | Seamless, repairable; moderate heat resistance |
| Quartz (engineered stone) | S$70 – S$200 | Most popular; hard, non-porous, low-maintenance |
| Sintered stone | S$75 – S$200 | Very heat/scratch resistant; premium |
| Granite | S$40 – S$250 | Natural, heat-resistant; needs sealing |
| Marble | S$100 – S$250+ | Luxurious but porous, stains/etches — high upkeep |

What affects the price
- Material & grade. The biggest factor — from budget laminate to premium marble.
- Length & thickness. More running length and thicker slabs (20mm vs 30mm) cost more.
- Edge profile. Fancy edges (bullnose, mitred thick edge) add fabrication cost.
- Cut-outs. Sink, hob and tap cut-outs each add labour.
- Installation & access. Templating, transport and fitting; tricky access adds cost.
Which material should you pick?
- Quartz — the go-to for most Singapore kitchens: hard, non-porous, low-maintenance, huge range of looks. Our default recommendation for value + durability.
- Sintered stone — if you want maximum heat and scratch resistance (you cook a lot), and a premium finish.
- Solid surface — seamless joints and repairable; softer, so mind hot pots.
- Laminate — best for tight budgets; just keep it away from direct heat.
- Granite — natural and tough, but needs periodic sealing.
- Marble — stunning but porous; it stains and etches, so only if you'll maintain it (or use it somewhere low-traffic).

Care by material (what you're really signing up for)
The purchase price is one decision; the next ten years of care is another:
- Quartz: the low-maintenance favourite — non-porous, no sealing. Just avoid direct heat: always use a trivet, as thermal shock can crack the resin.
- Sintered stone / porcelain: effectively heat-proof, scratch-resistant and UV-stable. The caveat is chipping on edges from hard knocks — and repairs are harder to make invisible.
- Granite: needs re-sealing roughly yearly; wipe acids (lime, vinegar, wine) promptly. Rewards you with genuine heat tolerance.
- Marble: beautiful and demanding — seal it, wipe spills immediately, accept that etching and patina are part of ownership. Better in dry kitchens and vanity tops than a heavy-wok kitchen.
- Solid surface: scratches show but polish out — the only material where light damage is genuinely DIY-fixable.
- Laminate: wipe-clean easy, but keep standing water away from seams and never cut on it directly.
If your kitchen does daily wok work, quartz or sintered stone will forgive you; marble will not.
How fabricators actually price your top
Quotes are per square foot, but the psf is not the whole bill:
- Cut-outs for the sink, hob and tap holes are charged per opening (S$50–S$150 each; undermount sink cut-outs cost more than drop-in).
- Edge profile — a simple eased edge is standard; bullnose, bevel or mitred-waterfall edges add per-foot-run charges.
- Upstands and backsplashes in matching stone are quoted as extra area.
- Slab seams: runs longer than ~2.4–3m need a joint — good fabricators place it where you'll never look.
- Template → fabricate → install takes about 7–14 days after carcass installation; the top is templated only once cabinets are level and fixed.
Get the psf rate and every extra itemised — two quotes with the same psf can differ by S$800 on the same kitchen once cut-outs and edges are counted.
Matching the top to how you cook
Be honest about your kitchen's workload before falling for a slab:
- Daily wok, heavy frying: sintered stone or quartz in a mid-tone — heat tolerance (sintered) and stain forgiveness matter more than veining.
- Weekend baking, light cooking: almost anything works; this is where marble owners get away with it.
- Rental or resale-prep: laminate or entry quartz — spend the savings on hardware buyers actually touch.
- Dry kitchen / island showpiece: this is the place for dramatic marble or full-veined quartz, away from oil and turmeric.
- Outdoor/BBQ counters: granite or sintered stone only — UV fades resin-based quartz and weather destroys laminate.
Bring home A4-size samples and live with them for a week: splash kopi and curry on the candidates, leave it an hour, and see what wipes clean. A S$30 sample test beats discovering your top's weaknesses after installation.
FAQ
How much does a kitchen countertop cost in Singapore? Roughly S$30–S$60 psf for laminate, S$70–S$200 psf for quartz/sintered stone, and S$40–S$250+ psf for granite and marble. A typical HDB kitchen countertop is about S$1,500–S$4,000 installed.
What is the most popular countertop material in Singapore? Quartz (engineered stone) — it's hard, non-porous, low-maintenance and comes in many designs, making it the default for most renovated kitchens.
Is quartz or sintered stone better? Both are excellent. Quartz is the all-rounder; sintered stone is even more heat- and scratch-resistant (good for heavy cooks) but usually pricier.
Is marble a good kitchen countertop? It's beautiful but porous — it stains and etches from acids and heat, so it needs careful maintenance. Many prefer quartz for a similar look with far less upkeep.
What's the cheapest countertop? Laminate, at around S$30–S$60 psf installed. It offers many designs but is less heat- and scratch-resistant.
Does the price include installation? Quoted prices usually include fabrication and fitting, but confirm cut-outs (sink/hob), edge profile and transport — these can be add-ons.
